Technical Machine Lead Hand – Merritt

As we continue to build our team in Merritt, BC, we have an opportunity for a Technical Machine Lead Hand.  You will be involved with a variety of activities including continuous improvement, achieving production goals, troubleshooting, training and coaching team members, encouraging a culture of safety, and creating a positive environment. This role will also be involved physically running machinery as well as observing processes. You will work a day shift schedule, with overtime available as needed based on business demand.

Your day at Barkman may include:

  • Under the guidance of the Production Supervisor, lead a production department in a positive manner to ensure production schedules and initiatives are completed
  • Maintain quality workmanship by following Standard Operating Procedures and quality standards
  • Coach and train team members in the department on production and safety procedures; providing a safe work environment
  • Encourage ideas, problem solving, and continuous improvement within the team
  • Participate and lead team huddles, updating information boards
  • Communicate with the Production Supervisor on the status of production progress and production or equipment concerns
  • Work alongside the production department team operating a Hess machine producing pre-cast concrete products
  • Crosstrain at various workstations to be able to rotate jobs to build a cohesive team
  • Follow daily job travelers to ensure orders are complete
  • Assist with the Total Preventative Maintenance program
  • Track data and information in computer system
  • Operate equipment inside the plant and the yard as trained and required
  • Physical activities include walking, standing, kneeling, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, using arms/hands to operate equipment, visually distinguishing colours
  • Required to wear a hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection at all times and a respirator (which requires an employee to be clean shaven) when needed for specific jobs

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Leadership skills that are motivational, positive, and geared toward problem solving
  • Experience leading a small team of people
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for training, problem solving, and team building
  • Mechanical aptitude for maintain equipment
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Experience using precision measuring tools for quality checks
  • An eye for detail and colour to create products that meet customer expectations
  • Comfortable with computers with basic skills for entering production data and operating equipment
  • Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime to address production demand
  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement concepts
  • Willingness to learn about pre-cast concrete, production processes, and various equipment
  • Manufacturing experience or experience related to precast concrete pouring and forming an asset
  • Experience operating heavily automated production equipment an asset

What we offer:
