Shipping Consultant - Seasonal

Since 1948, Barkman has sustained growth through the contributions of our team members’ commitment to customer service, quality, and innovation products.  We currently have an opportunity in our Shipping team for a Shipping Consultant in our Steinbach office.
 
This position is a seasonal role from approximately March to October with the opportunity to be recalled each spring. Hours will be full-time with overtime during peak business months. This role does qualify for our group benefits.
 
As a Shipper, you will work closely with our customers, couriers, Inside Sales, Sales, Production Planning, and yard staff. In this role customer focus, problem solving, teamwork a positive attitude and organization will be your biggest assets.
 
Some of the responsibilities and qualifications for this role include:
  • Consult with contractors and dealers by phone, e-mail and fax
  • Communicate with contractors/dealers regarding availability of product and delivery schedules
  • Organize orders and prioritize them according to location and required date
  • Connect with Sales, Production, Customer, Purchaser and other Shipping team members regarding stock levels
  • Call couriers to deliver product to those customers who want shipments delivered by courier
  • Ensure employees and visitors follow transportation and safety rules/policies
  • General office teamwork with filing, matching invoices and shipping bills
  • Assist Inside Sales when time allows
 
To qualify for this role you will have:
  • Ability to work extended shifts (overtime) on a regular basis to meet business demand during the peak season
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: comfortable with phone communication (customers, trucking companies, load brokers, Sales) and e-mail communication
  • Good computer and keyboarding skills including experience with Excel, Outlook and data entry
  • The capability of occasionally performing heavy physical exertion tasks such as assisting “walk-in” customers with product
  • Ability to multitask, be well organized and possess good time management skills is essential
  • Knowledge of the transportation industry an asset

Inside Sales Rep - Seasonal

Since 1948, Barkman has sustained growth through the contributions of our team members’ commitment to customer service, quality, and innovation products.  We currently have an opportunity in our Sales team for an Inside Sales Rep in our Winnipeg office.
 
This position is a seasonal role from approximately April to October with the opportunity to be recalled each spring. Hours will be full-time with overtime during peak business months. This role does qualify for our group benefits.
 
In this role you would assist the Sales team with:
  • Customer inquiries and communicating with our dealers and contractors
  • Participating with customer events
  • Assisting the sales team with customer relations
  • Enter purchase orders, confirming order dates, taking phone orders and entering phone and fax orders into computer system
  • Providing customer service and assistance with choosing product, delivery arrangements, and payment
  • Estimating materials from drawings and entering orders into computer system
  • Business administration tasks as required by the Sales and Office team
 
To qualify for this role you will have:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work in a fast paced work environment where teamwork is essential
  • Good computer and keyboarding skills including experience with Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook and data entry
  • High attention to detail and organization for accurate order entry and tracking
  • Mathematical abilities (basic algebra and geometry)
  • The capability of occasionally performing heavy physical exertion tasks such as transferring product for displays or assisting “walk-in” customers
 
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Education and/or experience in sales, customer service or business administration
  • Mathematical abilities (basic algebra and geometry.)
  • Knowledge of pre-cast concrete landscaping products is considered an asset
