Project Background

Big White Ski Resort, nestled in the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, is internationally recognized as a top-tier family-friendly ski destination. Situated on the west side of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, the resort is famed for its unique “champagne powder” snow, boasting an annual snowfall of 750 cm, and its expansive, world-class terrain.

Spanning over 3,052 hectares, the resort offers 118 ski runs, five alpine bowls, a terrain park, 25 km of Nordic trails, and one of Canada’s largest tubing parks. Big White’s mild temperatures and ski-in, ski-out accommodations make it an ideal destination for both beginners and seasoned skiers. Beyond skiing, the resort provides a wide array of family-friendly activities and scenic spaces that enhance its reputation as a premier destination for outdoor recreation.

To accommodate its increasing popularity and provide an enhanced visitor experience, Big White Ski Resort embarked on a revitalization project to upgrade its outdoor infrastructure, including the integration of premium hardscaping solutions in key pedestrian areas.

Design Inspiration and Use of Barkman Product

The goal of the revitalization project was to enhance functionality, aesthetics, and accessibility for the resort’s outdoor spaces, ensuring visitors could fully enjoy the resort’s amenities in all seasons. Verano Pavers were selected as the primary hardscaping material due to their durability, aesthetic versatility, and performance in challenging alpine environments.
