2023 is here, and with that comes a brand-new lineup of products! At Barkman, we are always looking to innovate and improve our product lines, so whether you’re a regular DIY-er or looking for something to mix-and-match with our existing offerings, our new products for 2023 are sure to fulfill your design needs.
Our Product Development Manager, Dennis Bergen, is the lead designer for Barkman and tasks himself with creating new and innovative products based on design trends and feedback from our valued customer base. Let’s take an in-depth look into what’s new for this year and what the inspiration was for each product.
Hexagon 65mm
Striking Geometric Design
Hexagon 65mm breaks away from traditional paver design in favour of something more playful. Colours can be mixed and matched to create striking geometric designs that enliven any outdoor space from any angle. Hexagon uses the same spacers and chamfer as Broadway, allowing it to blend well with one of our most popular pavers. At 65mm, Hexagon is ideal for patios, pools, walkways, and driveways.
What was the Inspiration behind this product? / What design considerations went into it?
Dennis: The hexagon is considered to be the most beautiful geometric shape. Its beauty and versatility allow this shape to thrive in a natural environment and make it perfect for landscaping applications. We noticed this shape take off in the interior design market and created Hexagon to provide a paver that offers the same aesthetic in our customers’ outdoor spaces.
What need does this product fulfill for our customers?
Dennis: This product offers a unique new paver for more geometric type settings and can work in both pedestrian and vehicular applications.

Dennis: Hexagon 65mm looks particularly good laid out in a blend of the three colour offerings: Natural, Charcoal and Ash.
Terrace Slab
Elevate Your Rooftop Patio or Balcony
Take your project to new heights with Terrace. Turn an undeveloped rooftop or a neglected patio into a livable space with Barkman’s Terrace Slab. Each slab is manufactured using strict height tolerances and meets the flexural strength requirements stipulated by CSA A231.1.
What was the Inspiration behind this product? / What design considerations went into it?
Dennis: This product is designed specifically for the rooftop market in BC. It will typically be installed on a pedestal system, meaning the slabs will rest on small risers, situated at the corners of the product, to allow for faster drainage on rooftops. This is a new market for Barkman and as cities continue to grow upwards, this market will only grow. The sizing and smooth texture of this product give it the required strength to be used in a pedestal application.
Any other interesting stats?
Dennis: The Terrace Slab will be offered in our new graphite color for the BC marketplace. This color offering for our BC market is a blend of Natural and Charcoal. This new color allows us to sell a product with a similar aesthetic to our existing Sterling color without the need for Face-mix technology. This color also works nicely with the naturally darker aggregates that we use in BC.
Broadway Contour 100mm
Added Texture for Ultimate Versatility
Our latest addition to the Broadway family, Broadway Contour, offers the versatility of Broadway with a new, textured face.
What was the Inspiration behind this product? / What design considerations went into it?
Dennis: The inspiration was to create a slab/plank that played with light and shadow. The raised contoured surface allows it to “come alive” as the sun moves throughout the day.
What need does this product fulfill for our customers?
Dennis: Broadway Contour 100mm features a striated texture that’s slip-resistant and adds a striking accent to any given space. It blends well with the Broadway product line and allows for a versatile array of patterns for residential or commercial applications.

Dennis: This product ties in well as accenting and offering more textures to our Broadway 100mm line.
Stackstone Coping and Liner

All-season and weather-resistant, the StackStone Fire Pit is a cozy place to gather family and friends on cold nights. Now, upgrade your fire pit and increase its longevity with our new Coping and Liner for StackStone fire pits.
What was the Inspiration behind this product? / What design considerations went into it?
Dennis: As our firepit offerings grow, we want to give our customers more options. Adding a liner and coping allows our customers with existing Stackstone fire pits to upgrade their units, adding new life to their products.
Who is the target Market / Audience / Customer
Dennis: DIY Residential. Since these products can be added after the fire pit has been installed, no matter how long you have had the product, it’s an easy upgrade for any DIY-er to add on. Mix-and-match the colours for a colour-blocking style or match the colours for a more tonal aesthetic.
What need does this product fulfill for our customers?
Dennis: The addition of the coping and liner creates a nicer looking fire pit while also increasing the life expectancy of the product.
